What to expect
What you can find for free
- Scam reports from victims and investigators on Chainabuse
- Balance, tokens and the full transaction history, on the right explorer for that blockchain
- The same address on BNB Chain, which many investment scams use
- Where the address has been posted online
Where free tools stop
Blockchains are public, but wallets don't carry names. Linking a wallet to a person usually means tracing the money to an exchange and getting its records by subpoena. Be wary of recovery services that promise to get your money back for an upfront fee. They're often a second scam.
Tips
- Much of the money in investment and romance scams moves as USDT on the Tron network.
- When you report to the FBI's IC3, include every wallet address and transaction ID. Exchanges can sometimes freeze funds that are reported quickly.
